The Kiwami series started from a specific frustration: standard clipboards are rigid and unforgiving, causing pens and pencils to skip or catch at the edges of the paper. KYOEI PLASTIC's response was a three-layer sandwich construction, two outer sheets of soft matte PVC enclosing a hard inner core. The soft outer layers absorb and distribute writing pressure; the hard core maintains stability so the board doesn't flex under hand weight.

The board is sized at A4+, a deliberate choice over standard A4. The extra margin means paper corners never overhang the edge (where they would fold or tear), and lines can be drawn cleanly across the full width of a sheet without the pen dropping off the side. The same oversized surface doubles as a stamp mat, since the non-slip processed PVC holds paper still without clips or tape.

The gold clip is not a stock component. Each one is hand-crimped individually by craftsmen, a process that ensures consistent clamping tension and gives the clip its distinctive rigid feel. The pen holder built into the clip conceals a round wall-hanging hole when closed, so the board can be hung on a hook between uses without any added hardware.
